Homework Club at Drogheda Grinds Academy
We know it can be difficult to find the time help your child with homework on top of working, dinner and all the other activities in the evening for a family. Having a qualified primary school teacher to assist your child with their homework after school and have it all wrapped up before they go home can really help a family and a child. This is particularly useful for students with Dyslexia who may need a little bit of extra explanation or time.
Homework Club Times
Our homework club starts from 3pm to 5pm every evening from the 3rd of September Monday to Friday. Classes are booked in 4 weekly sessions. Students from St. Mary’s Primary School in Bryanstown will be picked up and walked over to our premises in Martello Village. Students from other schools can be dropped off and collected at 5pm promptly (or 5.30pm if doing formal classes Tuesday & Wednesday) These classes will start from Monday the 3rd of September to December 21st 2018.
Students will get a drink and a light snack and 30 minutes timeout before homework starts fully supervised. Homework starts at 3.30pm – 5pm with a limited number of students per group. We only accept 5th & 6th class students.
Teachers supervising are not there to do students homework but to sit with them and make sure that they have done and understand what is being asked. Parents should still ask students what homework was completed and ensure they have signed off that it has been completed as per school rules.
Activities
Students that have finished their homework are given worksheets or extra reading tasks with books from our library along with activities such as ‘Countdown’ or ‘Scrabble’ to help improve spelling and vocabulary or Art on a Friday.
Extra Primary Maths, English & Irish Classes for 5th & 6th Year
Students can also attend extra formal classes in Maths, English and Irish each week for 8 weeks at an additional cost of €5 per subject per week. These are 1 hour long formal classes specifically to assist students who need more work with these subjects. These are booked separately to Homework Club and run on Tuesday: Maths 3.30 – 4.30 / Irish 4.30 – 5.30 & Thursday English 3.30pm to 4.30pm / Maths 4.30 – 5.30pm.
The cost for the 10 hours per week of ‘Homework Club’ with a qualified primary school teacher and collection/supervision and activities is €75 booked in 4-week blocks. Students can opt for month by month, term or full year. It must be paid weekly the Friday before. Please note charges will not be made for days where the school has official holidays either during term or Christmas/Easter or midterm breaks. Note there are only 12 places for September.
