Drogheda Grinds Academy are delighted to welcome Wyn McCormack, author and speaker on students with Dyslexia to give a parents talk on Thursday the 13th of October from 7.00pm to 9.30pm in the D – Hotel Drogheda. Join us at 7pm for tea & coffee. Talk starts at 7.30pm. This event is free for parents of DGA students from both last year and this year and €15 each for non DGA Parents. Information evening for parents of post-primary students with dyslexia
Many parents of students with dyslexia struggle to know how to support the student at second level as the challenges are different to those experienced at primary level. This evening aims to give practical help and advice.
The topics addressed include:
• Dyslexia and how it affects the student at post primary level
• How parents can support the student
• Developing reading skills at home.
• Developing self-esteem.
• Key educational choices such as subject choice.
• Supports such as DARE and RACE.
The presentation is two hours including time for questions.

Wyn McCormack has worked as a guidance counsellor and Special Education Teacher in St. David’s in Greystones as well as being the parent of three sons with dyslexia. Since the 1990’s she has given courses on dyslexia at second level to teachers and parents and study skills workshops to students. She is the author of the Factsheets on Dyslexia at Second Level (3rd update 2016) and Lost for Words, a Practical Guide to Dyslexia at Second Level (3rd Ed. 2007) and is co-author of Dyslexia, an Irish Perspective.
